280 SL
This
exceptional 280 SL is possibly the lowest mileage of its type we have
seen, having covered the very modest total of just 16,500 miles in the
hands of two private owners. Finished in 537 Champagne metallic and
matching hard top, with 054 Date cloth interior and dark brown soft top,
she has a very good specification which includes a rear seat, ABS,
Blaupunkt Melbourne radio/cassette, the original fire extinguisher and
fitted dust cover. Standard specification included power steering,
automatic transmission, electric windows, multi-point central locking,
power-assisted brakes, wood dash inserts, and top-tinted screen. She has
a post factory alarm system. The six cylinder 2,746 cc model was not
introduced until 1981, and the original sales invoice, which we possess
amongst the extensive supporting paperwork, shows her to have cost £
20,314.28 at the time of delivery. All the original service books are
present, and some invoices as well. The past MOTs show her to have
travelled very little in the mid-nineties when owned by the retired
couple who purchased her from new, and she has only run five thousand
miles in the last five years in the hands of the second owner, who has
kept her well serviced and cared for. We even have the original showroom
brochure, and she came to us still sporting the supplying dealer’s (Simpsons
of Bexleyheath) number plates and rear window sticker. This is an
extraordinarily low mileage and original 280 SL in superb order, with
great paperwork and the benefit of having been lovingly looked after by
her two owners. A30 DGW, if appropriately maintained, is capable of
many years fabulous convertible motoring to come.
